How to Get Him to Commit (Without Losing Self-Respect Or Your Soul)

In Uncategorized on September 22, 2011 at 2:46 pm

Yesterday I found an article with tips to help a man or woman gently steer a loved one toward commitment, and I’m passing it on. This particular piece impressed me; it doesn’t require manipulation, ultimatums, or hand wringing.

The author is Jeremy Nicholson, a blogger for Psychology Today and doctor of social and personality psychology. According to his bio, Dr. Nicholson works with “a focus on influence, persuasion, and dating.”

While he does cite examples from Millionaire Matchmaker Patti Stanger, whose tactics don’t always thrill me, the suggestions he makes toward the end of the article are dead on.

Getting a hard time about being single?

In Uncategorized on September 19, 2010 at 12:01 am

I’m just back from vacation (well, actually, I got back in the wee hours of Thursday morning, but I needed a couple of days to recuperate), and I wanted to let you know about an important event:

If  you’re looking for camaraderie among other forward-thinking
women —  who remain open to the possibility of marriage but are just
not willing to put their lives on hold for it — check out SingleWomenRule right now.

To mark National Unmarried and Single Americans’ Week (USA),
September 19 – 25, Co-Editor Keysha Whitaker and I are hosting our second annual blog crawl starting today.

(Similar to a pub crawl — but with blogs, not pubs — a blog crawl guides readers to seven blogs, one each day of the week, to read a guest post by one of seven featured writers.)

http://www.singlewomenrule.com

The Crawl opens with an article by Nicky Grist,  who runs the New York City-based Alternatives to Marriage Project.

It ends Saturday, September 25 with an article by Psychology Today‘s Dr. Bella DePaulo, author of SINGLE WITH ATTITUDE; and SINGLED OUT: HOW SINGLES ARE STEREOTYPED, STIGMATIZED, AND IGNORED; and STILL LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER on the ’Alternatives to Marriage Project’ blog.

Filmmaker Michelle Cove joins the Blog Crawl for the first time as a guest writer on Thursday, September 23, the same day her new book SEEKING HAPPILY EVER AFTER: HOW TO NAVIGATE THE UPS AND DOWNS OF BEING SINGLE WITHOUT LOSING YOUR MIND (AND FINDING LASTING LOVE ALONG THE WAY) is released by Tarcher/Penguin. According to the author and filmmaker:

“There is some weird assumption that all single women talk about all day long is how to land a man, which is preposterous. I am so excited by the idea of opening up more thoughtful, soulful conversations during this blog crawl.”

Other guest writers include:  New York City’s Melissa Malamut,  author of SHE’S GOT GAME, THE WOMAN’S GUIDE TO SPORTS  (OR JUST HOW TO FAKE IT); NYC dating blogger Melissa Braverman (featured on The Gayle King Show); feminist and activist Rachel Buddeberg;  and bloggers Christina and Lisa of Onely: Single and Happy.

The 2010 host blogs include ‘Living Single’ from Psychology Today, ‘Cupid’s Pulse,’  ’All Things Single,’  ’Dating Diva Daily,’ and ‘The Single Filez,’  from the UK, the first international blog to be featured in the Blog Crawl.

AND THERE ARE PRIZES:

The Crawl also gives readers who reside in the United States a chance to win prizes.  The new dating website, Cheek’d – recently featured in The New York Times - is a fun, safe, and non intimidating way to meet intriguing strangers.  Five winners will receive introductory memberships to Cheekd.com.

Two others will receive Modern Courtesan, a fragrance by YS perfume, courtesy of Luscious Lifestyle Diva (www.lusciouslifestylediva.com).

Do join us, and good luck!
